Koji Ioku, Professor, Faculty of Economics, Keio University

Amid the growing complexity of benefits and risks brought about by rapid advancements in science and technology, society is now being called upon to consider new forms of science and technology.

The speaker has been involved in the establishment of Japan’s first graduate program in medical-engineering collaboration, the Department of Applied Medical Engineering at Yamaguchi University. He later played a key role in implementing a graduate education reform initiative — the Environmental Frontier International Program — during the founding of the Department of Frontier Sciences for Advanced Environment, an interdisciplinary graduate school of the humanities and sciences at Tohoku University.

Drawing from these experiences, as well as his own research in materials science, the speaker will explore the future of science and technology through the lens of interdisciplinary collaboration and integration.
