Introduction
- Fumie Kawamura explores the historical development of the meanings of the term "energy" from the Renaissance to the early modern period, as well as its philosophical implications. Her interdisciplinary research bridges the natural sciences and the humanities, examining how the theological notion of energy gradually shifted toward natural and corporeal conceptions, eventually coming to express a revolutionaly spirit.

Research Objective: Through tracing the semantic transformation of the term "energy", this resarch aims to elucidate the process by which the concept of energy shifted from theology to natural philosophy. By doing so, it seeks to reconnect theology and natural philosophy - two domains divided by mechanistic rationalism - and to offer a comprehensive account of the historical formation of an anti-mechanistic scientif epistemology.
