Introduction

I am researching the modern history of Catalonia, a region (nation) in Spain with its own unique history, culture, and language. In recent years, my research theme has been to reconstruct the world of silk weaving and silk-related handicraft artisans in the city of Barcelona from the late 18th century to the early 19th century (work, family, faith) using historical sources such as wills, posthumous inventories, and marriage contracts of artisans and their wives or widows. Currently, In my classes, I broadly introduce various themes related to the socio-cultural history of Catalonia, such as urban formation, festivals, and sports, as well as the current state of the Catalan independence movement.
