Introduction

I am conducting research using an interdisciplinary approach called ethnomethodology, which focuses on understanding various human activities from the perspective of the people involved in those activities. I am interested in examining issues such as the sharing, creation, and transmission of knowledge within organizations and groups by understanding practices in activities without separating the knowledge that people recall or share from the practices themselves. I have conducted fieldwork in libraries, hospitals, companies, and other settings. Understanding the practices in each of these settings allows for a nuanced grasp of issues related to knowledge management, which in turn leads to research that collaborates with people on the ground to think about ways of working, as well as the design of services and technology within organizations.
